Tipping points-October 30, 2009 |
Today I was struck by three related examples of tipping points. Broadly speaking, tipping points are “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable”. While many folks impose a Coke and Pepsi view on all markets where the natural steady-state is a handful of leading players, they do not fully comprehend all the network effects present in the semiconductor IP industry. This business model really is an adventure, which I will further elaborate in an upcoming keynote at IP-ESC 2009. I will categorize the tipping points into immediate, medium-term, and long-term threads due to the different timeframes involved.
