Xilinx recently announced first customer ship of their new Zynq UltraScale MPSoC, which combines an FPGA with 7 (!) programmable processors in the form of 4 ARM Cortex A53 cores, 2 ARM Cortex R5 cores and a Mali-400 Graphics Processing Unit. This does not count additional MicroBlaze processors that can be positioned inside the FPGA.

This is a large amount of processing power and a developer needs the right tools and technologies to make optimal use of this platform. There is a distinct difference in use cases for the large ARM Cortex A53 cores and the much smaller ARM Cortex R5 and MicroBlaze processors.
